Student Story

Student Story

Deborah Keogh: Winner of Ladies Evening Style category:

Deborah, 37, is a Level 3 hairdressing student at our Wembley campus. She is in her second year, at the College having started her hairdressing training with us in 2011.

After originally working as a legal secretary for a few years, Deborah decided she wanted to work towards becoming a hairdresser at CNWL.

Deborah is an exceptional student. She was awarded 2nd place in Ladies Evening Style Category at the Southern Regional Finals of the AHT (Association of Hairdressing and Therapist) Competition, in 2012, qualifying for the national finals at Blackpool Winter Garden’s Hair Festival. Competing against 35 other trainee hairdressers from all over the country Deborah proved herself a cut above the rest and was awarded 1st place in the Ladies Evening Style Category again.

“My course prepared me well for the competition because we were given training in producing a number of ‘hair-up’ styles, using various techniques.” she said. “The teachers helped me find ways round a number of potential hurdles and enabled me to start planning the style back in September, when we first heard about the competition.”

“This has given me a huge confidence boost. Without the opportunity with CNWL my options for the future would have been alot more limited”.

Now in the final year of her course, she is building up her business and already has around 30 clients.

June 2013 - Deborah won first place in the avant-garde category at the Freelance Hair & Beauty Awards

Aug 2013 – Announced as one of two finallists in the Hairdressing Council Student of the Year Awards 2013
