Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare - CACHE Level 3 Award (RQF) Course

What will I learn?

This NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare Qualification is designed to prepare learners to set up a home based childcare setting as a registered childminder. It is also suitable for learners who wish to be employed in home based childcare settings as childminding assistants or other home childcarers (e.g. nannies, au pairs).

This course has two separate units:

Unit 1 (H/506/4745):Preparing to work as a home based childcarer

Section 1: Understand current legislation and regulation in relation to home based childcare
Section 2: Understand how to establish a safe and healthy home based childcare environment for children
Section 3: Understand how to support the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
Section 4: Understand how to promote equality, diversity and inclusion
Section 5: Understand how day-to-day care routines promote children’s well-being
Section 6: Understand how to work in partnership to support children’s outcomes

Unit 2 (K/506/4746): Preparing to set up a home based childcare business

Section 1: Understand how to lead and manage a home based childcare setting
Section2: Understand how to comply with financial and taxation requirements when setting up a home based childcare setting
Section3: Understand how to create a business plan
Section 4: Understand how to register with the appropriate regulatory body

Course Tutor and Support:

Students are supported for a 12 month period by a course tutor.

Course Assignments:

There are set assignments as you progress through the course which should be returned to your course tutor by email.


On successful completion of this course students will be awarded the Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare qualification issued by CACHE. This qualification has been accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF Qualification No:601/3527/X). This is a Level 3 Award Qualification and has 6 Credits.
